Observation Narrative
Swamp forest in stream-head swale bordered on both sides by upland pine forests and woodlands. Stand of dominant Nyssa biflora (mostly 40 to 70 cm DBH) has multi-age structure and trees have strongly buttressed, mossy bases; water marks are lacking. The shrub layer is dominated by Fraxinus caroliniana. The site supports very sparse herb cover; the ground cover is mostly litter and coarse woody debris. Moss covers hummocks around tree bases and other vegetation.
